Psychopharmacology Examination for Psychologists (PEP)

ASPPB is pleased to announce that as of March 19th, 2018, we have completed the Beta Test for the Psychopharmacology Exam for Psychologists (PEP). We are currently reviewing the data and preparing the exam for release. The current projection is that registration will open on Tuesday, June 5th, 2018. Please check back for updates.

In keeping with testing industry standards, the examination has been thoroughly reviewed and revised to ensure that the content reflects a valid representation of the knowledge required for the current practice of psychology with prescription privileges.   

To begin registration, applicants should visit: 

Candidates who have previously accessed our Psy|Pro system for score transfers, to use our credentials bank or to apply for one of our mobility certificates/PLUS will already have a username (email) and password. If they have forgotten their password, they can select 'forgot your password' to reset. New candidates should select, 'register as a new user'.

PEP Exam Admission Requirements
ASPPB applicant requirements for admission to the PEP:

  1.  Applicant must hold an active license for independent practice as a psychologist at the doctoral level with demonstrated training and experience as a health services provider as defined in the ASPPB Model Act.
  2. Applicant must submit a self attestation that the psychologist's licensure is in good standing with no current or pending disciplinary actions.
  3. Applicant must present an official transcript demonstrating successful completion of all coursework of a post-doctoral psychopharmacology training program from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S. or a provincially or territorially chartered institution in Canada. The psychopharmacology program must be APA designated or demonstrate coursework that meets the criteria outline for designation.
  4.  Applicant must submit a self attestation verifying that the applicant has been a health service provider for a period of at least two years.

Unfortunately, ASPPB does not have access to your previous documentation.  Previous test takers must register with ASPPB.   The registration process is typically not long but it does require some documentation.

PEP Exam Fees 
PEP Examination Fee -  $700
Kryterion Test Fee - $125.

PEP Exam Blueprint
The knowledge sampled by the PEP is organized into 10 Knowledge-Based Content Areas with associated definitions and knowledge statements.  The 10 content areas are represented on the PEP according to the percentages indicated after the title for the area. Candidates are encouraged to review the content areas of the examination.
